What is Expanded Aspect Ratio and why does it matter?

IMAX uses exclusive 1.90:1 and 1.43:1 aspect ratios that are taller than standard and large format cinemas, giving you more picture than anywhere else. Most standard cinemas use a 2.39:1 widescreen ratio. With IMAX, select movies are presented in 1.90:1 or even 1.43:1. This means you’ll get more picture than anywhere else, creating the most immersive experience possible.

Does every film use IMAX technology?

Every title playing in IMAX is optimized for The IMAX Experience®. 

Additionally, movies that are Filmed for IMAX® maximise each aspect of IMAX’s technology offerings – from IMAX-certified and IMAX Film Cameras to IMAX’s Expanded Aspect Ratios and custom soundtracks - to deliver the most immersive movie experience to audiences around the world.

Does IMAX offer 3D?

Yes, select films are presented in IMAX 3D.
